Manufacturing specifications
Supplier-fit checklist for 3D printed jigs and fixtures for manufacturing
Use these specifications to judge process fit, material fit, quality risk, quote inputs, and delivery expectations without relying on broad marketing claims.
Typical parts
Assembly nests, alignment fixtures, poka-yoke tools, and part-transfer trays; Drill guides, trim templates, masking tools, and bonding fixtures; Inspection nests, check fixtures, go/no-go aids, and scanner holders; Robot grippers, end-of-arm tooling, vacuum manifolds, and ergonomic hand tools
Material guidance
ABS, ASA, PC, nylon, and reinforced thermoplastics for suitable functional tooling; MJF or SLS nylon for complex nests, repeat batches, and unsupported geometry; High-detail photopolymers for selected inspection or presentation tools after durability review; Metal bushings, inserts, rails, pads, or frames for loaded, wearing, threaded, or precision interfaces
Process review
Workpiece datum, locator hierarchy, clamp path, and part loading clearance; Build orientation, ribbing, section thickness, creep, and thermal expansion; Bushing, insert, sensor, magnet, vacuum, and standard-hardware integration; Tool identification, revision marking, calibration points, and replaceable wear elements
Quality definition
Functional locator and gauge dimensions checked against the approved CAD; Trial with representative workpieces, clamps, operators, and station hardware; Deflection, wear, temperature, chemical, and cycle acceptance defined by the owner; Revision, serial, calibration, inspection, and retirement records where required
Cost and lead time
Tool envelope, print orientation, support, and material volume; Number of stations or duplicate tools; Metal hardware, bushings, machining, assembly, and calibration; Urgent iterations, validation fixtures, and controlled documentation
RFQ package
Tool CAD plus workpiece and station assembly; Operation, datums, forces, cycles, and environment; Bushings, inserts, clamps, sensors, and contact requirements; Quantity, critical checks, identification, and replacement plan
